Fotofab got a call from a local sales rep about a customer that was having a hard time getting a homeland security product manufactured because technically it just wasn’t possible. Fotofab’s engineering team responded by visiting with the customer and collecting all the available documentation regarding the design and it’s intended goals.
We examined the documentation and made some key recommendations back to the customer regarding different ideas for processing that might accomplish their goals and presented an R&D proposal in order to estimate the costs of trying. The project took several rounds of prototype submissions, re-engineering and testing but by the end of the project window we had helped re-engineer their design into one that can actually be manufactured while achieving much higher production yields and field life cycle than originally anticipated. Fotofab still manufactures this product today, we assemble our metal part of it into a plastic frame and put them in our customer’s packaging.
Do you have a custom part that you need help having made? Fotofab has made metal parts since 1967, if you have a mechanical part design problem there is a chance that we have already helped someone solve it.
